The Venture Centre/Le Centre de développement is an incorporated non-profit community based organization governed by a volunteer board of Directors. Board volunteers and corporation staff sign an oath of confidence in which they agree to adhere to the principles of The Venture Centre/Le Centre de développement's Privacy Policy.

This policy deals with personal information handled by The Venture Centre/Le Centre de développement.

Personal information is any factual or subjective information, recorded or not, about an identifiable individual. It includes:

• age, name, weight, height;
• medical records;
• ID numbers, income, ethnic origin, or blood type;
• opinions, evaluations, comments, social status, or disciplinary action;
• and, employee files, credit records, loan records, existence of a dispute between a consumer and a merchant, intentions (for example, to acquire goods or services, or change jobs.)

Personal information does not include job title, telephone number or address, anything that might appear on your business card, or can be found through publicly available information such as the telephone book.

Privacy Statement

The Venture Centre/Le Centre de développement shares the public's legitimate concerns about privacy and is fully committed to maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, security, and accuracy of personal information. To this end, we will continuously deploy all reasonable physical, technological and administrative measures to protect personal privacy in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and best industry practices.

The purpose of collecting personal information

The purpose for which The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement will collect personal information will be identified at or before the time the information is collected. We may collect personal information for the purposes of:

• processing and administering a loan
• processing employee payroll
• participant acceptance into programs hosted by The Venture Centre (YEP & LIC)

The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement will not use personal information for any other purpose than identified at or before the time of collection.

Guiding Principles

The following are The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement's 10 guiding principles for the protection of personal information.

1. Accountability

The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement has a designated Privacy Officer who is accountable for our compliance with the principles of our privacy code.

2. Identifying Purposes

Before we ask for personal information we will identify the purposes for which it will be used or disclosed.

3. Consent

The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement will obtain consent before or when it collects, uses or discloses personal information, and will give effect to withdrawal of consent.

4. Limiting Collection

The collection of personal information will be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes identified by The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement. Information will be collected by fair and lawful means.

5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention

Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes.

6. Accuracy

Personal information will be as accurate, complete and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.

7. Safeguards

The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement will implement appropriate physical, technological and administrative measures to safeguard personal information.

8. Openness

We will make our privacy policy accessible to the public.

9. Individual Access

Upon request, an individual will be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of their personal information, and will be given access to that information. An individual is entitled to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.

10. Compliance

Your and The Venture Centre / Le Centre de développement's rights and obligations regarding privacy are governed by applicable privacy legislation in Canada. The application and interpretation of this Policy and of our guiding privacy principles are subject to and will comply with such legislation, including the requirements, procedures, exemptions and exclusions contained therein.
